Electronic Navigation

More and more sailors are fitting GPS systems and chart plotters that were once only the domain of serious motor cruisers. However there is little point in having the equipment without knowing how to use it. We offer a one day course, in conjunction with a local electronics supplier, for you to try out and explore different electronic navigation aids. The course syllabus includes the set up and operation of GPS, the meanings of all those terms such as XTE, BTW, VMG..., use of waypoints and routes, datum's and datum shift. Chart plotters will also be demonstrated and you will have ample opportunity to get your hands on some equipment. This course will provide a useful foundation for anyone using GPS or chart plotter systems afloat.

Bespoke Shorebased Training

If you have some gaps in your knowledge, or would like training in a specific area of navigation, seamanship or meteorology we would be pleased to help. We have a team of experienced instructors with a wide degree of knowledge.

We have a well appointed and comfortable classroom at Shotley Marina, or we can arrange for an instructor to come to you at home or at work. If you think that your sailing would benefit from some specialist tuition then please contact Britannia Sailing , we would be pleased to offer advice on designing a suitable training package.
