RYA Coastal Skipper Practical Training
The
aim of the Coastal Skipper Practical course is to teach you to skipper a
small yacht safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and by night.
You will need to be suitably experienced before starting the course; your
boat handling and ability as a skipper should to be up to Day Skipper
standards, and you need to have a good knowledge of navigation and
meteorology.
You are assessed during the course, and if successful we
will award a Course Completion Certificate. You may also wish to take the
formal Coastal Skipper Practical exam, with an external examiner provided
by the RYA. We will be pleased to arrange this as part of your course. The
course takes five days to complete with an additional day on board for the
optional RYA/MCA assessment.
Coastal Skipper exam candidates must hold
a VHF SRC Certificate and a valid,
First Aid Certificate.
An exam fee of £160 is payable direct to the RYA examiner at the start of
the assessment. Evidence of sailing experience and a recent passport
photograph are also required.
